What causes a meniscus tear and what are the symptoms.
My advice if someone tells you to stop training.
1. Have a questioning attitude (why should I quit)
2. What modifications or changes could help keep you safer on the mats while training.
3. Find a healthcare provider with knowledge of grappling.
4. Get specific about training goals/modify training and training intensity.
5. Get back to training gradually.
6. Be mindful/adjust the stye of BJJ you practice.
7. Tap early.
8. Be accountable for recovery and take your recovery seriously.

In this quick video, I answer whether you can get back to training BJJ after an arthroscopic knee surgery to clean out a minor meniscus tear.
Keep in mind that everyone’s situation is different and unique, and this advice is based on my interactions with the athletes I have worked with.

In this video I answer a Youtube question about a knee injury that has limited the amount of bend in the knee. I discuss any whether there are some dangers in training without full knee motion.
I also talk about a few positions to avoid as well as position to use if you have limited knee bending and a really effective technique that can help improve knee bending (aka knee flexion).

Weakness and lack of mobility is something that most (if not all) of us deal with at some point.
If you are someone that sits a lot for work or practices Jiu-Jitsu, you will have shoulder mobility limitations and strength deficits.
By maintaining mobility and strength you will ensure proper shoulder function and decrease the likelihood of injuries in whatever activity you choose.
In this sequence, we focus on building shoulder health, stability, and mobility through three exercises and then combine these isolated movements into a dynamic movement that yields incredible benefits.
When performing this sequence, work in a comfortable range, avoid any pinching or pain.

If you train jiu-jitsu, then you have most likely experienced a “pop” in your foot or ankle at one time or another.
Whether its from a transition or scramble, an ankle lock/toe hold, or even during a takedown. That “pop” freaks you out becuase you have no idea how bad the damage or injury is.
This set of rules known as “The Ottawa Ankle Rules” are very useful in figuring out whether you need to get an x-ray or not.
Follow the rules and if the results are positive then get an x-ray.
If you’re unsure at all or worried then get an x-ray.
This is just for educational purposes and a way to help with the decision making process but is not medical advice and always see a healthcare profession for any injury needs or concerns.
