I was looking through an old computer at the gym the other day and I found this super old roll with one of my guys Rich who is now a Black Belt. During our no gi rolling session you’ll see a much “rougher” version of my game. Definitely similar to what I do now but much less refined. Keep in mind this was 2010.
I narrated the session with you because I figured it would be fun to sit down with you and watch myself flop around the mat. In a lot of cases it’s easy to forget how far you’ve come. Looking at my game now there are just holes all over the place.
But anyways, I hope you enjoyed seeing me from back in the day.
And if you enjoyed this narrated roll and would like more content like it check out my Chewjitsu Vault on my website at: https://www.chewjitsu.net/vault
Hope you had fun with the video.
Thanks for watching.

Are you worried about gaining weight and getting out of shape because of the quarantine and not being able to train? This has been a really common question I’ve received over the last couple of weeks. And it’s the question for today’s Chewy Ramble.
Our friend, like most of us, is unable to train BJJ currently because of the restrictions going on in his area. He says he’s worried about gaining weight and letting his diet slip. So his question was to see if I had any dieting tips for dealing with the situation while stuck at home unable to train.
In this video I outline 3 tips you can use to keep your diet in check while you’re unable to take part in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. That said, they’re also tips that could serve you well even after you go back to training.
These tips are also some of the same tips that helped me avoid gaining a bunch of weight in 2014 during my last long layoff from training.
Hopefully the video is useful to you and if you’d like more tips head on over to: https://www.chewjitsu.net/time-off and register to get my free at home training resource loaded with more info about dieting, bjj study and at home workouts to help you through the quarantine.
Thanks for watching.

Have you ever tried to convince someone to come back to BJJ after quitting? Maybe a training partner, friend or something. I ask the question because in today’s Q&A the question is “Have you ever convinced someone to come back to BJJ?”
I assume this question is because our friend is trying to get a someone to come back to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.
In this video I’ll explain why I don’t try and convince people to come back to Brazilian Jiujitsu anymore. I used to, but I don’t anymore.
Instead, as I talk about in the video, I do something else that is much more powerful and attract them back to training without having me try to convince them. In fact, one of the Black Belts I promoted recently came back in this manner.
Hope you enjoy the video, and if you’re trying to convince someone to come back to your BJJ gym take the experience I share to heart. It’s more common than not.
Thanks for watching.

If you’re stuck at home doing workouts for any reason whether it’s a corona virus or just your garden variety injury then you can use the tips I share in this video to get more bang for your buck from the exercises you use. In addition, it’s a really solid tip to incorporate into your regular lifting. You can also use this tip with your BJJ solo drills.
It’s a very simple idea that I share in this video but it’s one that can make any simple exercises way more difficult.
That tip is simply do the reps slower and with control. Seems easy but when you slow a repetition down to 5, 10, or 15 seconds it becomes much more taxing on the muscles.
The beauty of doing this is that it increases time under tension, make the exercise more difficult and increase the mind body connection formed during the movement.
Hope this video is useful to you especially if you’re stuck at home unable to workout like normal.

Ever heard the saying “sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail”? Well in this BJJ rolling video you’ll see me be 100% nail. Granted it was to be expected since I was rolling with 2X ADCC champion Jt Torres. It’s still another thing entirely to “feel” it.
During the no gi BJJ training we got started relatively slow with the rolling and then began to speed it up a bit. By the end of the rolling (which lasted about 30 minutes) we had a pretty good sweat going.
During the video you’ll see Jt Torres outwork me with his position and technique. I mean he’s in great shape for sure. But his positioning and technique were truly incredible. I was never able to put myself into a strong attacking position which put me on the defensive constantly.
I could have not posted this video but I think it’s important for transparency. Many of you follow me and look to me for answers to your Brazilian Jiujitsu questions. And I’m happy to share my ideas with you. But always remember that I’m on the same path you are. I’m trying to improve and be the best I can be. And sometimes I do great and other times I get mauled, like in this video. But I’ll keep going and doing my best to improve. And so should you!
Hope you enjoyed the video!

Want to learn a nasty Knee Cut Guard Pass variation for your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game that leads right into a back take? In today’s BJJ technique video 2X ADCC champion Jt Torres shows a beautiful setup, pass and finish to Back Mount with a choke.
The video is about 10 minutes long and is crammed with good details for taking your knee cut pass to the next level. So make sure you re watch it a few times and even consider taking some notes if you want to absorb the information.
Also, if I can recommend something to you. Pay extra close attention , and drill, the setup that gets you into the position. That position he shows to setup the knee cut pass wrecked my Half Guard and Butterfly Guard.
One last thing that I’ll throw in there is that Jt used this guard pass on me several times during our no gi rolling session (which will be live on Friday). So I can vouch for him that the stuff really works.
Hope the video is useful to you! Thanks for watching.
