In today’s BJJ technique video I share some useful triangle choke finishing details. It certainly isn’t all of them but it’s some basics to get you going if you’re having trouble finishing your triangle. If you get all of these tips down, I’d be surprised if you don’t finish your triangle choke with a higher percentage.
The triangle is one of the strongest submissions in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when done right. And these tips come from my own experience and that of my students who have very good triangles.
And even if you’re not super long and can’t lock your legs deep for the triangle. I’ll give you an adjustment to finishing the triangle with slightly shorter legs.
Anyways, good luck with using the details and happy hunting for your next triangle choke.

Today’s question comes from a Judo black belt who’s a BJJ purple belt and is 51 years old. He says on the feet he’s able to take people down effectively but on the ground, he struggles with younger people who are faster than him.
In today’s video I share an idea I shared with him through social media. It’s a simple idea that’s more about the methodology of wrestling and judo vs BJJ. In my eyes, this methodology gives a certain advantage to other grappling sports and so if you apply it to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu it can help add a lot of focus to your training and your BJJ game.
And, more importantly for the question, adding this methodology to your training will also help you seem faster without having to use more speed which, as you get older, may not be available.
So, whether you’re trying to hang with the younger faster people, or just want to learn how to slow the game down. Chew on the idea in this video.
Thanks for watching and I’ll chat with you next time.

In BJJ everyone wants to be more offensive and hit more submissions. It’s fun! In Brazilian Jiu-jitsu nothing feels quite as good as a well-timed submission. And so today’s question comes from a White Belt who said he’s defense is good but wants to turn up the offense now.
So in this video I’ll share 2 things. #1 I’ll share something that will destroy your ability to be offensive on the mats against similarly skilled opponents. #2 is a simple idea to eliminate this problem and how to become laser focused on your offensive techniques and submissions.
Now, I won’t lie to you. The idea is super simple. But it’s effective. It’s something I still do to this day. And when I think of all my best students and friends in grappling, they do the same thing.
So anyways. . . Hope the video gives you some useful ideas to assist you with your training.

Today’s question from a Blue Belt who’s competed, and done well, in several tournaments and is now gearing up to do his very first IBJJF competition. His question is whether or not the IBJJF competition is tougher than other Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitions.
In the video I’ll share some ideas on the IBJJF, why you shouldn’t get spooked about any competition and also how 1 of my BJJ students struggled in a local tournament and later on went and won the Pan Ams in his weight class and age division.
So, if you’re getting ready for your 1st IBJJF competition then I hope the video is useful!

In today’s technique video I’ll teach you 3 brutal chokes from the front headlock position in BJJ. I say brutal because they’re tough chokes. For instance, a rear naked choke in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a pretty smooth choke when done with good depth, all things considered.
But in the case of a Darce, Anaconda and the Arm-in Guillotine. . . there’s are a lot of “suck” to them. The Darce in particular hurts even when it’s done perfectly.
What’s cool about this video is the tecnique is shown as a sequence where if 1 fails you just move to another. This is a quality you’d like to have for pretty much any position you try to get especially skilled with in BJJ. So hopefully the video will give you some useful ideas on how to make this happen.
Anyways, hope the technique video gives you some useful ideas for your training.
Happy submission hunting my friends.

In BJJ there is often this idea that all you have to do to improve is this 1 thing. Many Black Belt coaches will say it’s the #1 thing you have to do to improve in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Heck, I’ve probably said it before. Nowadays though, I think it’s wrong, and if not wrong at least incomplete.
I explain why this common rule for Jiu-jitsu progress is ok but not what I would consider the #1 rule if you want to be good. And I think most of us in BJJ don’t get into it to be just “ok”. We want to be the best possible grapplers we can be. We may not be the next 24 year old Black Belt world champ, but we want to reach OUR potential.
And if you want to reach your potential it’ll require a lot of things. I talk about 1 of these important factors in this video.
Hope the video helps you with your BJJ training.
Chat with you next time.

Here’s a super simple defense to the a Knee Cut Guard Pass. Sometimes called a Cut Through. Either way, the defense is very simple and has been one of my most effective in training and competition.
Hope the little tweak helps you out!
