The Reverse Omoplata is one of the most dangerous armlocks in grappling, especially when done dynamically. In this clip from Omoplata 2.0 (https://www.grapplearts.com/omoplata) Stephan Kesting breaks down how to do this submission in a safe and very effective manner.

Recently the Ole Chewster has had some health issues….
With that being said, it’s forced me to take some time off the BJJ mats from hard rolling. And so with that I’ve decided to spend more time in other areas like the gym, specifically with stretching and mobility.
Lots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are extremely tight, that includes me. Personally, I have struggled with flexibility my entire life. I’ve never been a flexible guy. And with years of hard training and a few surgeries. My body has some issues.
That said I’ve been correcting some of these issues with a stretching and mobility program I had created for me. In the video I’ll share some of the movements that have helped me out. The stretches and exercises today are focused on knees, hips and ankles.
If you’re struggling with a similar issue, then hopefully these ideas can be useful to you.
Just remember, I am not a doctor, nor am I giving you any medical advice. I’m just showing you what has been working for me.
Go see a professional if you are having any issues.

Trigger positions make it easy for you to know when it’s time to attack in jiu-jitsu. From https://www.grapplearts.com/omoplata here’s an explanation of the trigger position concept and examples including the armbar, the triangle choke, and the omoplata armlock.
Today’s video is a question from a viewer named Brandon who’s been playing Butterfly Guard in his BJJ classes.
He said he’s had a lot of success with it, but he says everyone is catching on and stopping his underhooks. So in the video I show a simple way to get the underhook even if the person is resisting. It’s something I’ve used a ton and has been very effective with my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, so I hope it is for your BJJ as well.
Thanks for watching.

Today’s question comes from a blue belt by the name of Tom who is curious about my advice on training BJJ while married.
Good question, since as us guys always joke “happy wife, happy life.”
Anyways, he’s wondering how to find the balance between taking care of his wife and training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enough to do it at a competitive level.
Now, I don’t consider myself a marriage “Guru” or Counselor, but in this video, I’ll share how I found an important balance between my training and marriage. I’ll also share a simple exercise that I did with my wife that made my BJJ and my marriage better. So hopefully it will help you too if you’re in a similar situation.
Thanks for watching.

Today’s question comes from Jose who is wondering if he should keep training BJJ while going through a divorce.
He worries that he may bring some baggage from his personal life into his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym, that could lead to some not-so-fun interactions in training and doesn’t want to ruin his relationships at the gym as a result.
In the video I give Jose, and you guys, a story about similar situation that I went through in hopes to start a conversation & to help Jose out, even if it’s just a little helpful.
This is clearly a hard time for Jose, and I hope that he finds what he needs, gets through this whole situation, and is able to get back to his normal life as soon as possible. And if you’re experiencing a similar issue then I hope the video helps.

Love or hate the IBJJF, there are definitely a few pros and cons.
Recently a very well-known female black belt, Elisabeth Clay, was victim to a pretty insane call at an IBJJF competition. She had won the match, only to be called back a few minutes later and told the refs made a mistake and gave her too many advantages and awarded a refs decision to her opponent.
This isn’t the first time an athlete has gotten the shaft in competitions. And deep down whether you do BJJ or play basketball you expect a few bad calls to come your way at some point. But some are definitely worse than others. And this one was a bad one.
So I wanted to share my thoughts on it and also ask you for your competition horror stories.

Got a question about how to play Reverse Half Guard (top), so today’s video will show you how and why I use the position in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
These ideas are fairly basic and fundamental BJJ. So, if you’re a white belt, no worries, this should be pretty easy to understand. That said, I’ve used these techniques against some super tough Black Belts in competition and training.
When showing the Reverse Half Guard position I’ll show the arm in & arm out variations since they’re similar but slightly different.
Also on a side note, this is a position that high school & college wrestlers coming into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu seem to adept to very quickly. So, if you wrestled, maybe this is good position for you to try.
I hope a couple of these ideas are useful ones that you can chew on!
