Today’s video is about passing a really good Half-Guard players Guard in Jiu-Jitsu.
I got asked a question from a BJJ Practitioner who says his buddy has a really good half guard and is able to secure an underhook extremely easy when training, which can be extremely frustrating.
He wants to know what I would do to stop this and how I would approach passing half guard.
In this video I will show you guys a really good pass that will help you deal with the half guard and put you into mount, ready to go for the submission.
Hopefully you found the ideas in this video helpful for you if you’re struggling to pass half guard.

If you’re caught in a fully applied heel hook you should tap, but IF you catch it early, hide your heel, and strip the grip off your foot you can hit him with a sweet rolling backtake and choke him out! From Rolling Backtakes for Everyone, available at https://www.grapplearts.com/rollingbacktakes
Today we get a question coming from a BJJ White Belt named Scott.
He says that he rolled with his coach a few months ago, just flowing and feeling good about the roll, but a few months later they rolled again…
This time his coach put it on him. Smashed him: submitting him constantly in the round without giving an inch to Scott.
He says that he felt really discouraged after the round, but his coach gave him some serious words of encouragement after the smashing. Still, it stings.
He asked why his coach would beat him up so bad on the practice mats and wonders what he gains from being smashed so badly by his coach?
In this video I’ll give you my perspective about what’s going on, especially if I were the coach in this situation working with Scott (but of course I could be wrong)

Today we have a question from Victor, who has an issue that all of us are going to, or already have, experienced at some point in our BJJ Journeys.
He is 56 years old, a blue belt, started training Jiu-Jitsu when he was 48 years old, and is a relatively small grappler.
Victor says he has no athletic background and has struggled with certain handicaps in the past. He also says when he’s training, he feels a bit clumsy, and he really struggles to find any success during his rolls.
He says that he was recently rolling with one of the younger upper belts and became very discouraged. When his coach saw this, he said to Victory that he should “Just have fun”.
This apparently triggered something in Victor, and he send this question:
What do you do when Jiu-Jitsu is no longer fun for you, and you know you’re not going to get better?
Well, in this video I try to dive deep into that question and chew on a few ideas surround this issue that many people in the Grappling community run into at some point or another.
Hopefully if you’ve found yourself in a rut like Victor, then the ideas in this video are helpful to you.

Today’s video is aimed towards White Belts in BJJ.
We’re going to focus both finishing this basic Arm Bar & finding our way back on top when we are stacked from our basic Arm bar.
I was working this Arm Bar technique with one of my White Belts, in a fundamentals class, and he was getting stacked up and wanted to know what to do when this happens.
This is a pretty common problem, so I’m going to show you guys how to solve it, and how I helped my student solve this stack with a simple Sweep.
Hopefully if you’re a Jiu-Jitsu White Belt, then you find these techniques as helpful to use as they were for my students.

Today we have a question from Joe, a new Black Belt, who has owned a gym and been coaching BJJ for 2 years.
He says that in the years he’s owned the gym, his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu students have improved by leaps and bounds, which he’s super happy about, business is going good too…
But…
He says that he feels like his own technical progress has slowed down because he’s putting such an emphasis on his students, the school, and the business side of things.
He wants to know how he can continue to make progress in his own BJJ while simultaneously providing high quality instruction.
This is a pretty common and tough issue that BJJ Black Belts, or Gym Owners in Jiu-Jitsu, face.
In this video I’ll tell you guys about how I balance the work/coach side of things at the gym a while simultaneously focusing own progress in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
If you’re running into a similar issue, I hope that you found these ideas useful for you.

Today’s video is going to be a super basic White Belt video for those of you who are newer to Jiu-Jitsu.
I am going to go over the differences between the key lock and the basic kimura. On top of that I’ll show some basic set ups for both.
These are two basic submission attacks in BJJ that most people will learn within their first year, if not earlier, of BJJ.
Although these 2 are pretty basic submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, they are often confused for one another even though they’re quite different.
Hopefully if you’re a white belt in Grappling, training No-Gi or Gi Jiu-Jitsu (or both), you found these ideas useful for you.

Today we have a question from a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner named Jacob, and he asked HOW to finish a mounted guillotine choke.
He said that he’s able to sweep his partner’s over and get into the submission but struggles to actually finish the guillotine choke if he’s in mount.
So, to help Jacob, and anyone else who’s struggling to finish this choke in BJJ or MMA, I’ll break down the basic ideas of finishing the submission, both in guard and on top.
Hopefully you find a couple of the ideas in this video useful for you.

Today we have a question from a self-proclaimed “Spazzy” White Belt.
He’s curious about the difference between someone who’s the master of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques vs. someone who knows those same BJJ techniques but is not quite a “master” at them yet.
He says the highest percentage submissions at a high-level competition are always the most basic: Arm bars, kimuras, triangles, rear naked chokes, etc.
He asks if I can explain what the different between a master and a novice of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu using the same techniques?
He can’t understand how the highest-level competitors still get caught in the most fundamental jiu-jitsu techniques.
In this video I’ll try to dive into this question through the lense of “invisible Jiu-Jitsu” and principle founded by Rickson Gracie, plus a few more ideas about learning to “feel” in BJJ.

A common issue with BJJ practitioners is tightness and its effect on their submission ability at first glance.
With that being said, today a viewer named Wes writes in and says:
“Hey Chewy, my hips are very inflexible. Do you have any suggestions on how to perform Triangle Chokes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with this problem?
This can be a very simple problem to fix if approached properly.
I’ll give you guys a few stretches to help improve your flexibility and some smaller details to help you finish your Triangle Choke.
Hopefully you found the ideas in this video useful.
