This Killed my Over Under Guard Pass as a BJJ Blue Belt
The Over Under Pass in BJJ has been one of my favorite options for Guard Passing since I was a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
But the BJJ Over Under Pass definitely has some serious counters available for the person on the bottom if they know how to use them.
2 of the common counters to the Over Under Pass can be a “Bro Roll” and the Kimura. You may have a different name for the roll but that’s what we call it.
In this video I explain how I’ve encountered both of the problems in my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training that our friend Johnathan has had as well.
The big idea in the video is to help you avoid 2 of the mistakes or problems I had with the Over Under Pass.
So if you’re using this Guard Pass or trying to add this into your guard passing game in Brazilian Jiujitsu. I hope the video is useful!
Thanks for watching!

How to Finish North South Choke (And Common Mistakes to Avoid)
Jeffrey requested some tips on making his North South Choke in BJJ work.
Primarily he wanted to figure out to do the North South Choke in the Gi.
In the video, I explain how I prefer this type of choke in No Gi. It’s similar to a Guillotine Choke. It works in Gi Jiu-jitsu but it’s a bit more effective I believe in No Gi BJJ.
In the video I show my favorite setup that I use in Gi and No Gi. I’ve also used this choke in my last MMA fight back in 2012.
I hope the video helps you with your North South Choke in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

What To Do If You Just CAN’T Break Grips In The Guard
What to do if you’re trying to pass your opponent’s guard and you can’t break his grips. Thanks to Ritchie from https://www.youtube.com/user/infightingmma for sharing this with us!
Rolling, Drilling and BJJ Questions ( 3 Days Before Tournament )
Leading up the Cincinatti Open several weeks ago. Chad and I did a light rolling, drilling session.
During the session we started with a bit of Flow Rolling to get warmed up and moving. Then we progressed to BJJ drilling combined with Regular Full Rolls but at about 60%.
This BJJ training session was enough to get a sweat in and help sharpen my techniques leading up for the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament.
But at the same time, not enough to wear me out where I would not be able to perform well that weekend.
I personally do not train incredibly hard leading up to a competitions or tournament in Brazilian Jiujitsu. I try to continue to move but at the same time, let me heal up for the upcoming match.
During the session we also answered a few BJJ related questions and we even included a few of our Kids BJJ students at the end.
This video will give you a view of us just rolling around and goofing off at times.

How to Get Back into BJJ after 1 Year Off (This Part is Gonna Suck)
Getting back into BJJ after a long layoff can be tough. For numerous reasons.
In this video I answer the question Jacob sent to me about his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.
His question was
“I trained BJJ for about a year and then had to take a break for school reasons and it’s been another year since I’ve trained. I’ve forgotten a lot of passes, submissions and guard work. How do I get back into the swing of things going back to the gym?”
So in this video I share details about the 1st lay off I had as a Blue Belt and the frustrating problems I experience when I came back.
I discuss the most frustrating issue I dealt with which primarily stemmed from my identity that I had developed prior to leaving the gym.
I was really good, and when I came back to Brazilian Jiujitsu training with everyone in the gym. I had lost my step a bit and it was a bit of a blow to the ego.
So if you’re in the middle of a period of time off from BJJ or maybe you are getting back into BJJ after a time away. Hopefully this video is helpful!

Do People Escape Your Back Mount ? Use this BJJ Choke Setup
Here is a great Gi based Choke setup for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when you have Back Mount but are losing the position, or are letting the person escape in a calculated way.
The video for today was inspired by a recent match sent to me by one of the viewers.
He’s a White Belt, and almost had the Bow and Arrow choke which is very popular in BJJ. But he lost it as he was unable to get his second leg free.
For this video I show a Bow and Arrow choke setup I like using as a bigger guy. This will get rid of the position where our buddy got his leg stuck during his Brazilian Jiujitsu match.
The choke setup can be used from Back Mount either if you’re losing the back.
or
You can use the setup to lay a trap for your opponent. If you secure the lapel grip correctly. The person will be unable to turn towards you which will lock the person in place. This will allow you to come up and finish the choke from a top position.
This is beneficial for a BJJ tournament situation because you maintain dominant position.
It’s also beneficial as it gives your numerous other options involving chokes and armlocks.
Give this submission a try, I hope it helps with your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. And thanks again to Anselmo for the question.
