Rolling Knee Bar From Getting Crushed
In my last video, I showed you how to prevent yourself from getting cross faced and crushed from the bottom when going for the knee bar.
Now the worse case scenario happens – your opponent bends his knee and is just about to cross face you.
I’m going to show you what my friend Bendy Casimir showed me on my undefeated black belt Jason “The Specimen” Soares. You will actually go fetal and curl up like a ball – only to turtle and roll through to once again recover the knee bar. This complements the previous swimming technique and works as a fallback if you didn’t swim in time.
Go ahead and take a look then give it a roll. 🙂
Jason will be competing in EBI 13 on October 22nd. If you are interested in sponsoring him send me a message!

Escaping The Double Leg Off Your Butt
Getting put on your butt is no fun, but it doesn’t mean you have to stay there. This is a common position during wrestling, and especially in MMA when people are working to scramble up to their feet.
The defender can waste a lot of energy to work up to their feet if their opponent keeps their legs elevated and driving weight on top of them. So instead of countering a double leg, we will switch it into a single leg – which is much easier to counter.
I have used this escape to save my butt (pun intended), many times. It is so simple you will wonder why you haven’t been doing this before watching this video.

Potential Worm Guard Counters
My students and I did some brainstorming this morning regarding countering the Worm Guard. This is a very complex position with many variables, so I’m sure there are re-counters, however I hope this gives you some ideas! *First several clips don’t have audio due to background noise and off camera takking*

Leandro Lo: Guard Recomposing and an X-Guard Entry
A x-guard entry and guard recomposing against x-pass and leg-drag attempts.
I made this to possibly create discussion about how some great guard players address specific positions in their game. I have found competition footage to be a very beneficial learning tool so just want to share my thoughts here. Please comment if you find some nice details on the techniques or any corrections to my commentary!
