Details, Details, and More Details on a Common Overhook Transition in Closed Guard
More than two years ago, I attended a seminar taught by Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhães, and there was one thing that he showed that blew my mind.
It wasn’t some complicated or intricate technique either.
Nope.
It was just a small alteration to a transition that I learned when I was a white belt. I had to ask about it, and that one small thing was more than worth the investment.

Side control escape for taller/flexible grapplers
This has been a go to escape of mine for years it works so well from scarf hold or this regular side control. It’s really easy to hit if you can creat the space using your frame.
I learned to do this as a kid to get bigger opponents off of me as I didn’t have enough strength to overpower them by hip escaping and bridging. So being flexible and long I could at least pull this technique off.
Some will call it a dick move I would only call it that if you squeeze the head. It is a totally legit escape that works great if you are flexible and linky

These Tips Will Improve Your Guard Passing
The message I received said that he was struggling to stay up and keep his balance in no gi. So here is my style of passing. It is a quick in your face I decide the pace of the match style.
First tip is never let someone else be the engager constantly fight grips just like in the gi. Dictate how the match will go by being first or getting a reset until you are first. by moving side to side breaking grips you will be able to see openings and get past the guard easier.
You don’t always have to use the basic bull fighter you can use the side to side motion and mix it in with your other passes you just have to find an opening.
Last tip I will leave you with is this. Most people have a weak side. This is why I go side to side to see which side I will have a harder time with. Find that weak side and cut through it.

Sneaky backtake (Adams last chance?!?!)
This technique was extremely useful to me coming up through the ranks. I actually remember hitting this at blue belt worlds to win one of my matches.
Once you get the mechanics down it is fairly easy to Hit on people.
I used it about five times last night rolling just to refresh myself on the technique. If you have a nasty knee shield or half Guard game this position more than likely has happened to you.

Recover back control with this!
This technique will help you become a Human Backpack. The hip shovel is a great way to position yourself back to the back control. It’s super easy. one of the most common things that will happen from back mount is your opponent will try to get their back to the mat to turn into guard.
Now some other tips that a didn’t mention in the video that are worth some note!
You don’t always have to just use the standard seatbelt grip. A lot of times you will see me start in the seatbelt grip but I will also be controlling the wrist like the Choke I showed in the video. Another great grip you may have to use is double under wrist control. This is used from the turtle backmount or the seated backmount shown in the video.
You can also lose the back mount and gain mount instead. If you do not wish to stay on the back simply let them turn their back to the mat step your top leg over and come up. I will be doing a video on this next because it is a great tool to have.

3 super magical side control escapes
These bjj side control escapes have helped me out many times. I actually got hit with this technique when I was a blue belt and adopted it in my game. The key is just getting enough movement to make them post their hand out. After that you are free to move again.
If they do not post their hand out it should be fairly easy to finish the first arm roll escape. Again the key is momentum so I have to follow through without stopping. Otherwise this Escape will be extremely hard and will become a muscle move rather than actual technique.
By locking out the arm when you do the big wave you are stopping them from just squeezing you back down to the mat so be sure to really drill this detail in your head if you plan on using it!
