This is an overview of understanding the de la riva guard in modern jiu jitsu. The de la riva is one of the most useful controls in jiu jitsu but it can be used in multiple different guards. I overview the foundations of what makes this hook work and the easiest ways to apply it in different situations.

This video I go through a simple system to create offense vs a strong stalling opponent. The key to attacking a stalling opponent is forcing them to move and open up, the easiest way to do this is to back up and pull on the collar to break posture, they will be forced to respond to this either exposing and Omoplata triangle choke or a loop choke. When you can effectively mix these systems itβs so hard to stop.

This video I go over the benefits and multiple uses of the tricep grip. The tricep grip is one of my favorite tools for attacking submissions because it makes it so difficult for your opponent to maintain his elbow knee connection to defend triangles and armbars. Its also a great way to control your opponents posture and set up sweeps from butterfly and berimbolos.

Here’s BJJ black belt Jon Thomas explaining the pros and cons of the shallow lasso hook vs the deep lasso hook from spider guard. This is an excerpt from https://www.grapplearts.com/the-open-guard-system/ which will give you a complete gameplan for the open guard!
This video I discuss the importance of grip fighting off your back for setting up your guard and offense. Most people think of grip fighting as something you do when you are sitting up, but learning to effectively defend and control off your back is key to being able to establish an initial attack grip.

These 3 Triangle choke setups are really sneaky and I have been using them a lot recently after studying Felipe Andrew. When developing a guard itβs not only important to have good systems and sweeps but also to have some really dangerous submissions that are hard to predict because it keeps your opponent in a level of fear which makes them more defensive. I included conception clips of all the techniques. Hope you like the video and please comment and ask questions if you have any.

This is a really simple attack series and a great intro to the Key Master Hook. Their are many different ways to use the key master hook, but this series is based off starting from collar sleeve which is a common position and on my opinion the simplest way to set the position up. I go over a combo with the Triangle Choke, Ankle Lock, and Matrix set up that is very easy to combine. If you like the video please comment and let me know your questions.

This video I discuss one of my favorite transition which is switching from a single lasso to a fat ankle grip. This is a powerful combo because it allows you to switch from an upper body control game to a dominant lower body control series with the far sleeve. Furthermore it allow to you attack the far side leg which is often the one people struggle against because they are not use to leading with the opposite leg. Hope you like the video and please comment if you have questions or requests.

A strong stalling opponent on both knees is one of the most annoying things to deal with in jiu jitsu. Often it can be hard to find the submission because your opponent pulls their elbows so tight, making triangles and Omoplatas very difficult, but this often brings their base down exposing the loop choke, this video I discuss the combo of mixing the loop choke with the collar sleeve. Let me know if you have any questions or requests.

Freezing while rolling is one of the most common mistakes in Jiu Jitsu, this often happens because the person training is trying to analyze their technique too much while they roll. I solve this with 2 different methods, 1way is to focus on just making fast actions while rolling, and the 2nd is slow tempo rolls. Also filming your own rolls can be a great method of analyzing after the fact. Let me know future technqiue and concept question requests.
This video I discuss the concept of single sleeve control. This is commonly one of the first grips you get in jiu jitsu as your opponent needs to use his hand to commit to making a grip which always makes a sleeve available. This position is a starting point for transitioning into most open guards in BJJ such as Collar Sleeve, Spider/Double Sleeve, Cross Sleeve DLR, Cross Guard, Romulo Guard, Reverse DLR and more. I cover some basics of control as well as concepts for how you can transition to other positions with it. Let me know if you have any questions or requests.

When attacking from far side collar sleeve often your opponent will be tight with their elbow or step their hips back making it difficult to get close enough to chase the Omoplata or triangle. This sequence I learned studying and talking with Tommy Langaker has helped my guard tremendously in the last months, I have found it also very useful from cross guard. This is a short explanation, I hope you all get some good use out of it.
