I want to talk about something that may be ruining your enjoyment of Jiu-Jitsu…
It’s an extremely frustrating MYTH, and I’m here to bust it.
This myth makes you feel like you’re getting worse, even when you’re definitely getting better.

Today we’ve got a question from devlostworkshop here on YouTube, and he says, “He bruv, I recently started doing Jiu-Jitsu. Do you have any tips or insight on how to improve your breathing?”
This is something he, and most newer people, deal with.
Most White Belts, including myself, struggle with it. I’ll give you a quick tip to help your breathing and instantly feel like you’ve increased your cardio capacity.

At the 2024 Pan Championship, “Mighty Mouse” Demetrious Johnson dominated the Master 2 featherweight division, taking home gold as a brown belt. This year, he’s back—now as a black belt! We can’t wait to see him chase another title.

Recently, I got an email from “Bob,” a 54-year-old blue belt who trains at a more sport-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym.
During a roll with a young college wrestler in his 20s, he got injured, which has made him question whether he wants to continue training in BJJ.
With that in mind, he started looking into other options and found a Gracie University Jiu-Jitsu gym about 30 minutes from his house. He’s considering giving it a try.
He says there are aspects he likes, but he’s also concerned it might be a McDojo.
He reached out to ask what I think about Gracie University gyms.
So I give my bearded opinion on it. And if you train at a Gracie University gym, feel free to drop your comments with your experiences.
