Black-Belt/Adult/Male/ Open-Class
During class this week we put an emphasis on triage and how to salvage a good position once your opponent starts to escape.
This is an important skill and one that is fairly common. In the other videos on this series I show some variations of this where your foot placement is a little more aggressive in maintaining a good position.
This week I show you what to do when your oppoents stacks you to defend the armbar
How hard should you roll in your gym leading up to a BJJ competition and how often should you roll that way?
This is the question Damon asked after competing in his 1st BJJ competition ever.
His question stems from the fact that the tournament match was so intense.
And he says he typically doesn’t feel that level of intensity during his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.
In the video I try to explain my thoughts on BJJ training and rolling in the gym vs a Brazilian Jiujitsu match in a competition.
And it’s my belief that while sometimes your training partners will exceed the skill level of your opponents in a competition, making a match easy.
You probably won’t be able to replicate the same level of intensity from a BJJ competition inside your gym.
Watch the video and see what you think.
Enjoy the video.

Finding the right BJJ gym can seem like a daunting task for many newcomers who want to do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Recently I received a question from a former athlete asking this very question.
She says there are 3 Brazilian Jiujitsu gyms in her area and she is having trouble choosing the right one.
She says her goals are to challenge herself again after having multiple children and being able to defend herself is a plus.
In this video I describe some basic ways I would advise people to look for a BJJ gym.
The biggest factor though in my eyes is the community.
Because it’s that community aspect that is going to keep you coming in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for years and years.
We all know BJJ training is tough. And the connections to the awesome people inside your gym is what will keep you connected and continuing to train for years to come.
I also threw in a small warning and tips on avoiding illegitimate gyms. And I expressed the dangers of getting mixed up with a bad gym.
If you’re looking for a BJJ gym, I hope this helps you with finding a gym near you!
