Do you have friends or family members you’d like to join our cul…I mean, our martial art!? Hah!
This is what’s going on with our buddy Dan who’s a BJJ purple belt. He says he has family members interested in doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he wants to know what a good lesson is for his family members so that they’d get interested in BJJ and not just drop off after their first experience.
So, I answer the question from the standpoint of getting someone excited so they can carry that enthusiasm into the difficulty that awaits them.
I’ll try to answer this from a human psychology perspective. I’ll also dive into the technical introduction, which I will focus on.
I’ll ever compare your first BJJ experience to a first date. The idea might be a little out there, but if you watch till the end it’ll make sense.
Hopefully, you found this video helpful if you have family or friends wanting to get into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Thanks for watching!

Today we will discuss the neck & arm principle for finishing submissions in Jiu-Jitsu.
I’ll cover subs from side control, from the guard,
All these situations come off of dilemmas. Meaning, I’ll use one submission threat to open up the other.
You can use this great principle with most submissions in Jiu-Jitsu or MMA.
Any position that involves submissions from the arm & the neck can utilize this principle.

Today we’ve got a question from Taylor.
He’s a young guy, who has been doing BJJ for 3 years, and he’s focused on Jiu-Jitsu competitions.
His goal is to be a high-level competitor in the future.
He wants to know how to bridge the gap between himself and the people with more experience than himself.
So, I understand where he’s coming from because this used to freak me out too.
When I started doing MMA & Jiu-Jitsu, I was faced with a lot of opponents who had extensive martial arts, wrestling, or jiu-jitsu backgrounds that I couldn’t even compare too.
All the way into Black Belt I competed against guys who have had years and years more experience than me. I even once competed with a guy who had his black belt longer than I had been training.
In the video, I’ll talk about the actual degree of time that matters when training, the difference between hobbyist and hard training, and how the quality of your training is more important than the quantity when training as a competitor.
If you’ve ever felt like Taylor, then hopefully you found this video helpful.
Thanks for watching.

What’s up guys,
Today I’m going to show you a really simple counter to the traditional straight Ankle Lock from Single Leg X/Ashi.
Quick story,
I got this technique from a guy who was training at the gym, a Jiu-Jitsu Brown or Black Belt at the time, Clay, and while we were rolling, I attacked a Single Leg X Ankle Lock.
He then proceeded to submit me with this counter. Ever Since then, I’ve used it a ton in training BJJ.
Hopefully, if you like leg locks for Jiu-Jitsu, then you enjoyed this video and found the technique helpful.
Thanks for watching.

Today we’ve got a question from a Jiu-Jitsu Coach (Assistant Coach) who recently had a brand-new White Belt come into class to try out BJJ. Here’s the kicker though…
The new student is 71 years old!
This guy has minimal mobility with his body and has bad knees that soon need replacement, so the Assistant Coach spent a good amount of time trying to analyze what the older gentleman could and could not do.
During the training, he has the older gentleman doing solo movements. After the class, he talked to other coaches and asked what they thought he should do to help.
They suggested that he help the older student find a specialist and should stop working with him.
But the older guy continues to come in and wants to train, and so the Assistant coach wants to take on the challenge of an advanced-age student.
He wonders if I have any advice for this particular situation.
Here’s what I think…

If you struggle with side control escapes, I’m going to teach you a movement I like to use when I get stuck on bottom side control in Jiu-Jitsu.
This is a movement that I’ve shown countless times at my Jiu-Jitsu gym, but I’m not sure I’ve taught it here on YouTube.
This will help you get out of really tight side control positions.
This is also the return of Adam!
