I’m getting ready for 2024 No-Gi Worlds in a few weeks, bulking up for a run at Super Heavyweight.
But anyway, I was thinking about the fact that I’ve been competing since the year 2000 in Wrestling/BJJ.
It’s been a wild 24 years. I’m getting old!
On top of that, I’ve had a lot of time to make mistakes, and adjustments, and develop some wisdom in the long years I’ve been competing in Jiu-Jitsu.
In this video, I’ll share a philosophy that changed my life in and outside of BJJ competitions. It’s an idea of high standards but low expectations. Meaning high standards for yourself but low or no expectations for how the outcome should go. I’ll explain more in the video.
Thanks for watching!

This one of the most shocking videos of assault we’ve ever seen.
On November 7, 2024, D’Andre Johnson arrives at a the Department of Child Safety in Mesa, Arizona, to meet with a DCS government employee about his open case involving his children, and he streams the entire meeting on facebook.
At the end of the hour-long meeting, they stand up, and after a fist bump, he puts the case-worker into a standing Rear Naked Choke and holds the choke for nearly two minutes.
Throughout this time many people called police and you can hear other people attempting to intervene verbally but no-one took physical action.
Thankfully the victim survived but doctors stated that his injuries were nearly fatal.
If anyone has a connection to the Arizona Department of Child Safety, please connect them with Gracie University so we can sponsor their instructors to attend the upcoming 2-day SafeWrap Instructor Certification Program on March 25-25, 2025, hosted by the Los Angeles Police Dept and taught by Rener and Ryron Gracie.

Today I’ll be responding to the backlash towards recent ADCC Veteran, Brandon Reed, for his success at IBJJF No-Gi Pans (Purple Belt).
Brandon, my student, who has been training just a little over 3 years in BJJ won the tournament along with Michael Pixley, which stirred up a lot of conversation and a video response by Brandon, to said controversy.
Here’s his video:
I’ll give my take on the situation & address the reality of Brandon’s Jiu-Jitsu experience and his recent competition result. I’ll also explain WHY he has not gotten his brown belt yet.
Thanks for watching.
