De la riva can be extremely frustrating if you go against a good cut through passer. Your guard will be crushed in seconds if you don’t use this little tip.

I started using this against my big 240 pound training partner Kenny. He was killing me with his weight and cut through pass. Than I started using this technique and it really helped me to start recovering my guard or attacking from here.

A lot of newer people are unfamiliar with the turtle position. I had a question come in on my Facebook page from “Mark”

Q&A

So I posted one of my matches on Instagram and I had a few people write me and ask to do a video on the sweep I hit.

You ask I deliver! This sweep is actually very easy to hit if you set it up right. And it looks so smooth. Basically you want to set the person up. After they pick you up in guard drop and try to catch their legs. If you catch them great you get the first sweep.

But most of the time the base will widen and if you have them leaning even a little bit you can launch them in the air. I hit this move on a heavyweight In the open. So it works on bigger guys as well.

This is my number one ninja move! You can catch this on people and they won’t know what hit them. They go from passing your guard to ether side control or a scramble.

I’ve been using this technique for awhile now and every time I hit it my opponent just looks at me like “WHAT IS THIS MAGIC!”

it is very sneaky but requires practice. Once you get your hips turning the right way I bet you can start hitting this. Just remember….

Block the hook. Roll over their arm to stop them from dragging you back down. If you don’t go over push away and get back to guard.

At the age of 11 years old I thought that I wanted to fight MMA. I began doing MMA classes, wrestling, kickboxing, boxing, everything I needed to do to fight. Now my goals have changed I no longer want to fight MMA for now.

But the good thing about practicing all these different martial arts is one I learned how to defend myself, two I learned a lot of neat techniques in my time training for a fight.

My favorite triangle finish came from doing MMA. I started using this all the time naturally because I was trying to not get hit. Than I adopted it into my jiujitsu game and started hitting it there as well!
