The Armbar. One of the most fundamental submissions in Jiu-Jitsu. Particularly from guard. Unfortunately, we quickly learn how to defend them and this means as a submission apart from very new students they can become low or lower percentage. The effect of this is that many white belts quickly abandon this great submission. This should not be the case. Professor Gustavo Gasperin teaches how to set up the triangle choke from the mount position, using the gift wrap control.

Jeffrey requested some tips on making his North South Choke in BJJ work.

Primarily he wanted to figure out to do the North South Choke in the Gi.

In the video, I explain how I prefer this type of choke in No Gi. It’s similar to a Guillotine Choke. It works in Gi Jiu-jitsu but it’s a bit more effective I believe in No Gi BJJ.

In the video I show my favorite setup that I use in Gi and No Gi. I’ve also used this choke in my last MMA fight back in 2012.

I hope the video helps you with your North South Choke in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

These are some takedowns that I personally feel don’t require you to have a ton of Judo or Wrestling proficiency. I have hit these takedowns on people that have much better takedown ability than I do, but because of the nature of how these are set up and executed, they are difficult to stop.

It should go without saying that these are obviously for a sportive context, but there are elements as always that are applicable to beyond just sport competition.
