One of my favorite positions in BJJ is the Belly Down Back Mount.

To me, I think it’s easily one of the worst if not THE WORST position in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

From a fight that involves punches, it’s incredibly nasty as the person on bottom has no reasonable way to defend themselves.

For Brazilian Jiujitsu it can be equally soul crushing as the person on top can drive their full weight into the back and easily snag the rear naked choke.

In this video I show how to get to the Belly Down Back Mount from other forms of Back Mount when the person defends the rear naked choke.

I also throw in some simple adjustments for getting the submission with the rear naked choke.

I’ve used these adjustment countless times in BJJ rolling and competition to get the victory.

Of course, yesterday…we showed the technical attack of the Omoplata and the Kimura. But what about the armbar? In this video, I discuss an armbar from baby spider. The entry requires using the top side of the foot as a hook for around the head. It’s very cool. Much more powerful than you think. And actually, relatively easy to get. Try this one out guys. BUTTERFLY SWEEP BJJ

A favourite SWEEP from the BUTTERFLY GUARD; the key to successfully getting the top position is not to let go of your grips on your opponent. By holding on you create enough leverage to get yourself over your left shoulder and into side control and carry on the fight from there.

Carl Fisher is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is the chief instructor at Checkmat Wimbledon in London. Do you find it hard to pass the Knee Shield Half-Guard? How about Deep Half-Guard and Lockdown?

The Half-Guard game has evolved so much in the last decade or so that it has quickly become one of the strongest positions from the bottom.

Guys like Lucas Leite and Bernardo Faria have won multiple WORLD titles playing a half-guard based game.

Even in MMA the half-guard position is highly successful, look at Demian Maia for example…

What makes the half-guard so effective is its ENDLESS possibilities.

It’s a very dynamic guard. You can sweep, submit, take the back, transition to closed guard, transition to its many variations like z-guard, knee shield, lockdown, deep half, half-butterfly, reverse de la riva, and so on…

So the question is… how do you STOP the half-guard?

As you can imagine, there is no silver bullet.

Proper body positioning should kill about 60-70% of the whole Half-Guard game. But you still gotta have answers for everything they throw at you. You gotta know how to pass its many variations in case they get in there.

So I called my longtime friend Leonardo “Cascao” Saggioro (2017 IBJJF Worlds silver medalist) to help me build my new online course, called Smashing The Half-Guard.

Cascao is regarded as one of the best featherweight competitors of his generation, and is widely known for his SMASHING pass style.

As with yesterday’s quick rundown on the Baby spider…in this video, we discuss some nice submission entries. With a quick move of the leg and shifting your opponents shoulder blade…you can move them directly into a set-up for either the Kimura or the Omoplata. Either is fine for me…you decide? some like one better than the other. Sometimes it just comes down to the dynamics and positioning at the time of the roll. But these are great submissions and they work wonderfully from the baby spider. Give this a go on the mat guys and let me know how you do…
