Now that you have a sweep to use let’s look at some situations. Most of the time when people are standing up they are going to get a cross-grip. The grip that we are using is also a cross grip on the sleeve. So you simply need to reverse the grip by rotating your wrist.

If they go double collar grip to lift you just hook their leg and it will stop them from lifting you off the ground than work to get the sleeve.

If they are standing with both hands on your wrist do the first move I showed pull forward while circling your wrists out.

Carl Fisher is a BJJ black belt and a veteran of many high profile grappling events in the UK and around the world, competing in the first ever BJJ event in Jordan in 2008. The club is affiliated to the Checkmat team under the tutelage of black belt Luiz Ribeiro, head coach at London Fight Factory.

Carl medalled at the Scandinavian Open in October 2009 and was a regular medallist at the Hereford Open and the UMA events up to 2012. His first match at brown belt was against BJJ Globetrotter Christian Graugart in the first ever brown belt match to be hosted in Scotland in 2011. Carl took bronze at Grab and Pull in Manchester in 2012 and competed in Abu Dhabi in 2013 in the brown and black belt division at the BJJ Asian Cup.

In 2010, Carl trained at the legendary Tiger Camp in Phuket and returned from Brazil in October 2010 after a month long training trip, learning jiu jitsu at the academies in Rio de Janeiro. In 2012, Carl worked in the local schools in Abu Dhabi, teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as part of the school curriculum.

The Over Under Pass in BJJ has been one of my favorite options for Guard Passing since I was a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

But the BJJ Over Under Pass definitely has some serious counters available for the person on the bottom if they know how to use them.

2 of the common counters to the Over Under Pass can be a “Bro Roll” and the Kimura. You may have a different name for the roll but that’s what we call it.

In this video I explain how I’ve encountered both of the problems in my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training that our friend Johnathan has had as well.

The big idea in the video is to help you avoid 2 of the mistakes or problems I had with the Over Under Pass.

So if you’re using this Guard Pass or trying to add this into your guard passing game in Brazilian Jiujitsu. I hope the video is useful!

Here’s a glimpse of our purple belt test.
1st part is a test of randomized, specific jiu-jitsu answers to very common types of self defense situations.
Part 2 is fighting a skilled fighter, someone at blue belt, then purple belts, followed by black belt.

Some high-percentage Knee on Belly attacks and setups. There are so many options from this versatile, transitional position, and these are some of my favorites I find to be useful against a variety of common energies.

It happened at the Japan Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2004. A special super fight, between two of the greatest competitors ever. Terere was victorious over Marcelo in the worlds finals a year before, submitting Marcelo with a triangle choke. This rematch was part of a special event in Japan, where Andre Galvao also competed as a brown belt. Video of that coming soon as well!

I learned this at my first seminar with Pedro Sauer. I’ve used it a lot over the years. It’s best to not get your neck wrapped but if the choke is coming this is a nice surprise.
