Today I will show you a part of my technique session from one of my Jiu-Jitsu Gi classes at my gym, Derby City MMA.

I reviewed with the students how I like to apply pressure and attack the arm in reverse side control.

We review a few different attack options that work well in Gi Jiu-Jitsu, No Gi Jiu-Jitsu, and even MMA.

Today we’ve got a question from a BJJ Blue Belt, named Tye, who recently pissed off his Brown Belt training partner.

He’s a young guy & the Brown Belt was someone who essentially took him under his wing. Well, the other day they were rolling, and Tye caught the Brown belt in the Guillotine.

The Brown Belt does not tap, Tye makes multiple adjustments, and at some point, 4 or so minutes in, after the Brown Belt escaped, he bashed the Blue Belt for the rest of the round.

After they got done rolling the Brown Belt was obviously pissed.

Tye sends the message asking what he should have done in this situation.

In this video, I’ll give you a specific tip to prevent this from happening again. I’ll also discuss the higher belts perspective and what he could have done.

Recently at the Chewjitsu open, while watching the White Belts/Beginners compete, I noticed a common theme amongst them all…

That theme was this: They could not get to mount properly, without being countered.

In this video, I’ll address 2 big Mount mistakes White Belts make in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how to avoid them.

I’ve been asked this question often over the years since I started doing these videos with you guys. And my answer has always been a big bearded…

There are many reasons I don’t want Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Olympics, like other martial arts, including Judo, Karate, and others.

Welcome to another instalment of Cole Porter’s series on his lapel guard series

In this video, Cole, a 1st-degree black belt, shares a great alternative for when your opponent is shutting down your choke attempts – the gubber guard. This technique comes into play when your opponent is effectively defending the choke and preventing you from getting under their neck. Instead of getting stuck, Cole shows how to transition to gubber guard, a powerful control that clamps the shoulder and opens up new submission opportunities.
