When you roll, you should have fun but you should always focus on something specifically.
For most people, that focus´is exclusively getting the submission.
for me, I tend to focus most of my rolls on different kinds of controls and pressures and studying them.
This doesn’t mean I have to go hard or just smash or completely control my opponent.
More often, I do a kind of flow where I can focus on feeling what’s happening with the movement and his reactions to my weight and blocks.
There are many different kinds of weight (and methods of control) that I use but in this roll, I focused mostly on what I call “dead weight.”
In my upcoming Pressure & Control Instructional, I#ll be covering them all extensively.
I also discuss some knee cut passing principles (sorry about the audio)
The Kimura arm lock is one of the most powerful and versatile tools in the submission grappler’s arsenal. Also referred to as the double wrist lock or ude garami, this lock is not just a powerful submission, but a position, or trap, in itself.
In this video, I outline some common, and not so common, entries and finishes using this hold. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think, and don’t forget to like, share and subscribe!

This video I discuss Guard Retention and Proper Body Positioning. When you have no grips and defend off of your back I prefer to have a tight crunch position as it reduces the elbow knee space gap for your opponent to pass into, but one common problem people have is this leads to being exposed to stacks so it’s important to learn to defend both of these passes which for me usually turns into alternating how I position my body based off of what kind of pressure my opponent is putting on me.

In this video, I review the “Pso-Rite” product and how to use this device for trigger point release of the psoas muscle.
We discuss the location and function of the psoas muscle and why it can be a problematic muscle for a jiu-jitsu practitioner.
The Psoas muscle also effects hip mobility as well as can lead to hip and low back pain as this muscle can be inherently tight in jiu-jitsu practitioners.
Releasing the Psoas muscle with a tool such as the Pos-Rite will lead to improvement in hip and low back pain, improved hip and back mobility, and will also assist with recovery for BJJ.

If you’re getting ready for your very 1st BJJ competition I think this video might be useful for you. In the video I share 3 helpful tips you should keep in mind when preparing for your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament or match.
The question comes from our friend Niki who is a powerlifter and is considering doing her 1st BJJ comp.
She was curious if there is anything she needs to know when preparing for the tournament.
In the video I shared 3 ideas that I think would be useful for anyone in Jiujitsu getting ready for a competition.
1. Set your sights on a upcoming competition as early as possible. Know the competition you plan to do and prepare for it. Doing this will give you ample time to get familiar with points, rules, etc.
Because it’s important to remember that BJJ competitions are a game. And during that game it’s wise to remember that it’s not always the person who’s best at BJJ wins. It’s the person who’s best at playing the competition game.
2. Know what you’re going to do at the start of the match. Whether it’s a takedown or a guard pull you need to know what you plan to do when the match starts.
3. Know your weight class and types of weigh ins. I’ve almost gotten into trouble with this over the years where I didn’t pay attention to weight classes.
If you have a competition coming up I hope this is helpful to you!
