The Loop Choke in BJJ is an incredibly versatile and sneaky submission. It can be used as a choke, setup to a sweep and is available from many different positions.
In this video our buddy Doug requested a Loop Choke. I’ll probably do another video on the loop choke in the future. But in this video I’ll show you a basic loop choke setup and how it works.
So this video isn’t really the best on setting it up but it will show you the basic mechanics of how it works so you can use it if you like.
One big key I’d like to emphasis with you if you decide to use it is to make sure to apply pressure on the carotid arteries. Oftentimes when I see people practicing this choke for the 1st time. They have a tendency to apply too much frontal pressure to the wind pipe. This is both dangerous and not as a effective.
So be sure to keep a somewhat looser grip so you can secure the pressure on the carotids and get the proper collar choke positioning we are looking for.
Hope this video helps you.

A pant grip from De la Riva is one of the strongest grips you can have… and one of the most frustrating for your opponent! Why let it go – especially for a weaker, inferior grip – when you can use it to stand up and sweep your opponent in highlight-reel fashion? Check out the video below to see Atos brown belt Conner DeAngelis show his bread-and-butter collar and pant sweep, with two different takedown finishes!

With training jiu-jitsu, our hips frequently get compressed or we have have been tensing up the hips and hamstring muscles while training which can lead to tightness, stiffness, and even pain.
In this video, I demonstrate a great way to address tight hips and hamstrings.
This technique uses two “Monster Bands” which are thick rubber bands. We start with a hip mobilization to stretch and loosen up the tight hips. This mobilization is great at working out any tightness or pinching at the front of the hips.
Then you will incorporate the second resistance band and bring the leg up to elicit a hamstring stretch. This is a more complete and more effective stretch that not only loosens up the hips but addresses tight hamstrings as well.
You can hold for 10-15 seconds for 3-5 repetitions if you are using this technique as a warm up prior to training or increase the hold times to 30-60 seconds for a cool-down or post-training stretch.
In the video I use a “Rogue Monster Band” but you can find similar items on Amazon.com

Black-Belt/Adult/Male/Feather – Final
When passing the guard I like to break things down into separate mini positions with their own sets of wins and losses. In this position the grip fight battle I am looking to establish a strong passing position and my opponent is looking to entangle me in a guard he prefers to play. I often utilize toreando and knee cut passes as a method of passing my opponent a common defense to these passes is going wide legs, in this situation I like to utilize leg pins to help set up my passes and next positions. Comment and let me know which position you would like me to cover next or more in-depth on this topic.

It was an honor to get to collaborate with Shane Fazen of FightTIPS recently in a seminar at Fit to Fight®️ in Charlotte, NC along with Ryan Hoover as well. It was also great to get to make a couple of videos with him like this one here.
This is a progression from the beginning of a defensive situation versus someone swinging a sucker punch. Shane shows a very effective strategy to cover and crash the range into clinch and I show options off the guillotine.
