Here is an important video if you like leg locks or passing guard with the Leg Weave/Side Smash pass.
The Leg Weave pass is one of the most powerful and demoralizing passes in Jiu Jitsu, it’s extremely uncomfortable for the person on the bottom, and it can lead straight to the mount position.
But there is a problem, if done incorrectly, the Leg Weave pass can put you right into the Inside Sankaku/Honey Hole/Saddle position, and now you are defending leg locks left and right.

There’s always a way out if timed and performed appropriately. In this video, Jared Jessup and I look at some of the most useful arm lock escapes that will get you out of some of the most common arm lock energies you’re likely to encounter at all levels.

The Imanari roll was created by Japanese MMA fighter Masakazu Imanari and has gone on to become an important technique in many jiu-jitsu fighters repertoires. Marvin Castelle is part of the new generation of jiu-jitsu athletes who has perfected the Imanari roll and has used it to great success in high level jiu-jitsu superfights.
More than just a great fighter, Marvin and his student Brandon Lim, are both highly qualified instructors hailing from 10th Planet HQ in Los Angeles who know how to break techniques down into all of the small details that really make them work.
At first glance, the Imanari roll looks like a tornado of limbs, but don’t be dismayed! Marvin carefully and concisely explains each part of the roll, starting from standing and ending with a submission.

Today’s BJJ Q&A video is a little different as it comes from the question of a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym owner who has a student leaving under less than optimal terms. In this video his question is about accepting a student back.
In this video I share a story that started when I was a Brown Belt and ended when I was a Black Belt. It was where I had a friend and a high ranking belt leave the gym to open up another gym.
It happened under less than desirable terms and so I had to tell the student he couldn’t train. Sometime later the BJJ gym he had started closed down and I share how I invited him back.
Every situation is different but I believe people make mistakes and I won’t choose to hold it against anyone if they are willing to move past them.
And as I’ll also talk about in this video. If you’re a gym owner and you have other people in the area talking trash about you. Use that negative energy that’s put towards you to drive you in being a better coach to your students.
