“Andre Galvao is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes of all time, with 6 IBJJF World Championship titles, 10 IBJJF Pan American Championships, and 6 ADCC World Championship titles (4x as the ADCC Super Fight Champion). My wife was training with one of her friends and was attempting to elbow escape from the mount. Her friend responded by going to modified mount ( sliding the back knee behind the head and bringing the knee off the floor and foot to the hip) to shut down the elbow escape. We covered this defense in our lesson and wanted to share it.

Using this mobility drill can help with improving range of motion and decreasing stiffness in the shoulders and the mid and low back.
Make sure that you move within a comfortable range with is pain-free.
Adjusting the distance away from the wall will assist with amount of mobility/stretch.
Further distance from the wall = Less mobility requirement.
Closer to wall = more mobility requirement.

Quarter guard can happen in many ways. Two most common occurrences are in the transition when opponent is escaping from mount or when your mid pass and they’re holding off for dear life.
Regardless, if you find yourself in the situation, this is a good pass to use.
