When I was first learning the arm triangle, I remember struggling so much. And then eventually I began to understand it and it became my best sub. I thought.
I had a neck issue that exposed my poor technique and I had to start from scratch learning how to arm triangle with good posture and clean mechanics. So listen closely.
This will help fix some common problems people have when they try to set up ARM TRIANGLE CHOKES (also known as a Side Choke or a Head and Arm Choke) on good practitioners.

Today I got a question from Adrian who is a White Belt getting smashed in BJJ by higher ranked people and is wishing that someone would “teach” him what he was doing. In this video I explain why these people are teaching him in a way that is maybe a little more intuitive. I explain this by sharing a couple of stories from my own Brazilian Jiu-jitsu including my early training when I 1st started.
I did this video because it’s important to understand what’s going on in this situation because if you don’t you’ll definitely get discouraged and lose motivation quick.

Here are some reasons you may not be finishing arm bars. Knowing and doing are sometimes very different things. I get questions about securing and finishing submissions, and I understand the frustration of being so close to catching something and not being able to finalize it. In this video, I focus on common mistakes people make on the mounted arm bar.
In subsequent videos I will look at other specific submissions from specific positions, how to set them up and finalize them, mitigating potential mistakes along the way.
