Today’s video is going to feature Austin (IG: @badboymedicine) again!
Instead of focusing on takedowns for Jiu-Jitsu, this time we’re going to focus on what to do once we actually get on the ground, specifically with a focus on submissions once we get to the Half Guard position in BJJ or MMA.
We will explore a sequence from half guard in order to pass, pin, and submit your opponent off their back, with a specific focus on No-Gi grappling (of course most of this can be modified for the Gi too.)
Austin, a Judoka, asked specifically for submission sequences that come after a pin, so that’s what the focus on this video is going to cover.
We will also cover getting to mount, controlling the mount position, and submitting from there. This will include me teaching Austin some nuances such as passing from quarter mount, forcing my opponents to post on my knee to give up their arm, securing mount, and more.
It’s always fun seeing grapplers from different arts trying BJJ, so I hope you guys enjoyed this video as much as I did.
Hopefully, if you were struggling with the positions in this video, then you also found some useful tips that’ll help your game out too.
Thanks for watching!

I recently got a question during a Q&A session about my favorite guard pass in the gi which is this Back Step Pass. This specific pass is low risk and one that works really well.
I utilize the same side lapel and cross pant/knee grip to swivel my opponent, clear the legs, and get into a strong side control.
And if there are any other techniques you want to see, send me a comment down below!

What’s up guys, today we’ve got a question from a guy named Brian who has this idea that I think a lot of us in the martial arts world tend to hold.
Brian is getting ready to compete as a Blue Belt and he’s nervous.
He said he competed a little bit as a BJJ White Belt but didn’t feel great doing it.
He says he feels pretty dang good when he’s practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the gym, but when he gets out on the competition mats, the nerves take over.
Because of this, he feels like he always underperforms.
He says he’d like to get rid of the fear and asked if I had any tips to help out with that.
In this video I’ll try to share something with Brian that most fighters/grapplers come to terms with as far as competition goes, that actually SKYROCKETS your ability to compete, and it might surprise you.
Hopefully if you’re struggling with competition anxiety, then you found the ideas in this video helpful.

What’s up guys!
My buddy Austin (AKA @Badboymedicine on Instagram) was in town doing a seminar for my gym showing some Judo that you can use in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu.
He wanted me to show him how I use that Arm Drag Inside trip (also known as the Kouchi Gake in Judo) and I wanted him to show how he set ups the Kouchi Gari as a foot trip.
So, that’s what we did.
This is a fun Takedown for Jiu-Jitsu video because although many takedowns from Wrestling and Judo are similar, there tend to be minor differences in details that, for whatever reason, were adapted for each particular sport.
Judo is often seen as a great takedown base in the Gi, but as Austin often displays on his Instagram, it can also be extremely effective in No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu situations too.
Hopefully you guys found this video helpful and learned a thing or two from it.
Once again you can find Austin on Instagram at @Badboymedicine for more content.
Thanks for watching!
