In today’s BJJ technique video I share some useful triangle choke finishing details. It certainly isn’t all of them but it’s some basics to get you going if you’re having trouble finishing your triangle. If you get all of these tips down, I’d be surprised if you don’t finish your triangle choke with a higher percentage.
The triangle is one of the strongest submissions in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when done right. And these tips come from my own experience and that of my students who have very good triangles.
And even if you’re not super long and can’t lock your legs deep for the triangle. I’ll give you an adjustment to finishing the triangle with slightly shorter legs.
Anyways, good luck with using the details and happy hunting for your next triangle choke.

This is a sneaky setup from the top player, as when you attack the Kimura from top half, your opponent is usually preoccupied defending their arm and their guard. When you dive out of their half guard, they are usually caught with their pants down. This results in a quick reaction from them, which usually is a bridge and roll to try and recover top position.
This benefits you, as you get to easily take their back and attack with the one arm choke.

This trap using the skirt of the lapel essentially makes a sling for your opponent’s arm, isolating it and dismantling half of their defense against the choke options. Great tool based off the kimura threat in the gi.
What if you don’t want to chance your prey escaping? Then we get on top and attack right away. The same side Kimura would be the ideal option, is it is a very powerful Kimura finish with not much recourse for your opponent. Otherwise, you can score a traditional top side control and pursue the classic Kimura there.

How do you feel when you go to a tournament? At the end of the Kids Comp Class, Professor Nisar Loynab talked to the students about it. They are getting ready for the 2022 IBJJF Pan Kids! 🔥 Watch the full speech on www.atosbjjondemand.com
I started using this grip a long time ago to enhance control in closed guard with the gi. It was a fantastic discovery, but like most good ideas, it was already something that existed, as I saw others using it later on. Regardless, it is a powerful grip that can lead to some great submission and sweep opportunities. If you’re not using gubber guard yet, try it out. And if you are, what are some techniques you like to use it for?
Today’s question comes from a Judo black belt who’s a BJJ purple belt and is 51 years old. He says on the feet he’s able to take people down effectively but on the ground, he struggles with younger people who are faster than him.
In today’s video I share an idea I shared with him through social media. It’s a simple idea that’s more about the methodology of wrestling and judo vs BJJ. In my eyes, this methodology gives a certain advantage to other grappling sports and so if you apply it to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu it can help add a lot of focus to your training and your BJJ game.
And, more importantly for the question, adding this methodology to your training will also help you seem faster without having to use more speed which, as you get older, may not be available.
So, whether you’re trying to hang with the younger faster people, or just want to learn how to slow the game down. Chew on the idea in this video.
Thanks for watching and I’ll chat with you next time.
