The 2018 Pan Championship gave us an unforgettable showdown between Kennedy Maciel and Gabriel Sousa in the brown belt light-featherweight division. From start to finish, their match was packed with action, showcasing the incredible talent of the next generation.
In this video, 2nd-degree black belt Marc Barton shares a 4-attack sequence from the closed guard arm wrap system, a highly effective setup he learned directly from his instructor, the legendary Coral Belt Mauricio Gomes.
By trapping the arm and breaking posture, this system forces your opponent into a defensive position, setting up a chain of high-percentage attacks:
Attack Sequence:
Arm Wrap Choke – Secure control and go for the first submission.
Posture Control Choke – Use their reaction to tighten the strangle.
Triangle Choke – Transition into a powerful triangle setup.
Cutting Armbar – If they defend the triangle, attack the arm!
