I get a lot of questions from people (my students and online followers) about the best foods to eat before BJJ training. Many people ask this because they struggle to eat and then train without feeling sick. I literally just had this conversation with one of my students in the gym the other day.
So in this video I share some basic ideas on what’s worked for me and my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. Warning! This is a video talking about diet which means everyone, and their mother is going to have something to say about it. Here’s my advice. Don’t fall victim to zealotry when it comes to dieting. Most often people push this stuff for their benefit, not yours.
And with that said my encouragement is to try things out for yourself. So I lay out the methodology of me pre-training nutrition along with some of my favorite pre-training foods.
Hopefully the video is useful to you.

If you’re struggling with your foot work for BJJ and also want to improve your knee on belly position, then give these drills a try!
In this sequence, I use a medicine ball which has been one of my favorite pieces of equipment for solo drilling.
These drills will work on your footwork, balance, and cardio.
You can do these movement for 1 minute each, 2-3 rounds. Increase your speed as you get comfortable.

I still get the question quite a bit about the differences between the Anaconda and Darce chokes. It can be a little confusing in the beginning to distinguish these, so here is a short video to help quickly illustrate the difference. Hope this helps!

“Every child will get bullied, and how they handle it will shape the rest of their life.”
Our son, Raeven, is 7 and we explained to him that there are many kids who suffer from bullying all over the world that don’t know what to do. So we decided to make this video in hopes of providing inspiration and guidance to families that need it the most.
It’s his first video. He tried really hard and we’re so proud of him.
There are 2 big mistakes I see people make when they’re trying to finish their collar chokes in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. It’s something I did as a White and Blue Belt . . . to be honest, it’s something I’ve done even into the higher belt ranks. But especially at the lower ranks it was a problem.
So, in this BJJ technique video I’ll show you the simple corrections to these 2 common collar choke mistakes. By simply fixing these 2 errors you could possibly take your collar chokes that aren’t working now and making them effective during rolling.
I know this has been the case for me and my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.
Oh and in case you watch the video and don’t understand the terms casting and reeling, I’m referencing the actions you use with a fishing pole.
Hope the video helps you with your training.
