In today’s video I share a little secret for longevity in BJJ and a tip that is incredibly useful for making it to Black Belt and beyond. Now I know that language of “secrets” is a little hyperbolic, but I see so many people struggle with the idea I share in this video. I also, don’t see a lot of people talk about this. But it’s something that’s been helpful in my BJJ training and practice when forced to work around injuries or help my training partners do the same.
Now I’m sharing this because this situation just happened the other day with one of my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu students and it happens regularly.

I get a lot of questions from people (my students and online followers) about the best foods to eat before BJJ training. Many people ask this because they struggle to eat and then train without feeling sick. I literally just had this conversation with one of my students in the gym the other day.
So in this video I share some basic ideas on what’s worked for me and my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. Warning! This is a video talking about diet which means everyone, and their mother is going to have something to say about it. Here’s my advice. Don’t fall victim to zealotry when it comes to dieting. Most often people push this stuff for their benefit, not yours.
And with that said my encouragement is to try things out for yourself. So I lay out the methodology of me pre-training nutrition along with some of my favorite pre-training foods.
