Stopping Stiff Arms

In a recent video. I discussed various awesome techniques to stop your training partners passing your guard. Each one of them works incredibly well. One of those was using ‘stiff arms’ – this means locking your arms out so that it is ‘structure’ not ‘muscle’ that is holding back your opponent. Believe me – it’s massively powerful. Ok, but like everything in Jiu-Jitsu – there are counters, and counters to your counters. And so it is with this move. Now if your training partner has watched my ‘guard retention’ series. Counter That Kimura!

The Kimura is a great attack and I’ve got many videos showing many different ways to grab them. But in this video, I take you over how to counter a Kimura attempt when you are not within your opponent’s guard but when you are in a more dominant position – side control. Finish That Ankle Lock!

I like to teach straight ankle locks to my white belt students. I think getting a good understanding of this part of the game early on in your Jiu-Jitsu career puts you in great shape as you progress through your game. However, many white belt students give up on Ankle locks early because they can’t seem to finish them. And the blame is placed on the Anklelock, or ‘it just doesn’t work for me’…but the reality is, the weakness is in the execution, not the technique. 3 White Belts Mistakes To Avoid. So You Don’t Get Tapped

One thing that you learn very quickly when you enter a Jiu-Jitsu Academy for the first time and start rolling with experienced practitioners. You get tapped quickly, often and seemingly with ease. It’s frustrating and massively ego depleting. So much so that very few attend the next class. That’s a pity. Because, Jiu-Jitsu, if you allow it – will change your life for the positive. No matter who you are and what your life circumstances. Now having said that being tapped is no fun. Particularly if you don’t know why. So, in this video, I would like to lay out 3 simple tips that will help you not make the usual beginner mistakes that will get you tapped. Back Step Half Guard Pass!

This move, I ensure my white belts really understand and have an ability to apply during rolling before they move to blue. Being captured in half-guard is, of course, common and people develop multiple techniques for handling and still passing that great half guard player. But in my experience, when those techniques are struggling, then the back-step half guard pass comes into its own. This is a very effective and simple pass. And if you are a half-guard player. 4 Awesome Attacks From Shin To Shin

Shin to shin is a really cool guard and I think it has become increasingly necessary as many grapplers are incredibly proficient at placing one leg between yours and then sliding their knee through in a knee through pass. This might happen on say, 70% of the time. So, it’s a good idea to think about a way to prevent this. One such way is to place your shin against theirs. In this video, I discuss how to take this shin to shin position and move into an attacking position. It’s a lot easier than it looks. There is reward with careful viewing guys.
