Here’s footage of me competing in a Judo tournament as a BJJ blue belt against a 300 lb opponent back in 2000 when morote gari (the double leg takedown and touching the legs) was still legal. He denied tapping to the armbar (the result of a juji gatame roll) but I think it was pretty clear that he was caught, and fortunately the referee agreed.

The North/South Position can be difficult to manage from both offensive and defensive standpoints. But once you have a couple of solid submissions and escapes from here, you gain confidence in this position that really adds to your game.

The S Mount is a VERY powerful position in BJJ – it puts a TON of pressure on your opponent and gives you unparalleled opportunities to attack with the armbar and other submissions. One way to get into the S Mount is to jump into it from side control when your opponent is keeping his arms tight. This is a movement of intermediate complexity but you can train it on your own using a heavy bag on the mat (shown in the first few seconds of this video).

This video shows some Double Trouble Triangle Trap Armlock situations. We are doing some “reverse engineering” and working on different variations of this situation. Mike Pennington brought in an old catch wrestling photo showing what appears to be a rather painful finishing hold and we had a lot of fun parsing it out and figuring out how it works and how to set an opponent up for it-as well as how to make it a practical move.
