I am reposting this from some time back…it is a wrist lock that works like a charm. It’s sneaky and works even better with rolling partners that are of some experience. Or more experience than yourself. Why? because it presumes or depends on ‘correct’ behaviors! Now, be very careful with wristlocks, they come on awfully quick and can catch people out real fast. As a struggling grappler and a much lighter guy…when I come up against guys that have a little bit too much strength it wouldn’t be uncommon to find myself getting ‘side mounted’ But I started working on an escape that I started calling the ‘sneaky eye’ and it works fantastic. Even when my training partners know I am going to use it…I still manage to get the technique done and turn a bad position in where I am being dominated…into a position where I am in control. A lot of the guys at the club have been using this to great effect as well…I would love to know if you guys have used something similar? if not, give it a go on the mat and let me know how you go…

Kesa Gatame Escape – The Basics

Getting caught in Kesa gatame just really is unpleasant. And the better the guy is a Kesa Gatame – the more pressure you are going to feel, the harder you will find it to breathe. You will feel like your ribs are being crushed and you are seconds from tapping many different submissions. But you can change the tables. That’s the great thing about Jiu Jitsu. You can metaphorically go from broke to rich in seconds – if you know the right moves. This stuff is basic. But it does not make them simple or to be ignored by the higher belts. On the contrary – the longer you are in Jiu Jitsu the more refined these ‘basics’ will become. You might call them ‘fundamentals’. Anyway guys, check out this video and give it a try on the mat.
