Starting from the spider guard we use the scissor sweep motion to setup the arm drag position to bring our opponent to the closed guard. when our opponent tries to square up to prevent the back take, we attack the arm.

In this video I show 7 Arm Drag and Collar Drag drills you can use. The arm drag and collar drag drills and variations can be used by themselves or together.
Here’s a list of the drills:
– Arm Drag
– Collar Drag
– Far Side Hook Switch
– Bow Pull Back Take
– Arm Drag To Double Leg
– Arm Drag Combination
– Re-Drag With Combination
The drills start off with your basic arm drag and collar drag. From there I show some different movement drills that you can incorporate with the techniques.
We did several of these drills during one of my Saturday morning classes recently and the guys loved them. There is obviously a technical benefit from them and the moves can be chained together to make fun connected sequences. But in addition to that, everyone was also a sweaty mess. Especially the arm drag to double leg.
Also, it’s worth noting that pretty much anytime I use the arm drag in the video it can be supplemented with the collar drag. For me personally, I always try and use the arm drag when I can since the collar is gi only, whereas the arm drag is universal. But it’s still a solid move to throw into the mix.
I hope these 7 BJJ drills help give you something to play around with during an open mat or during your own training!
If you have any questions or requests, feel free to shoot them over to me!
Thanks
