The arm crunch, or ude gatame if you like the Japanese words, is an extremely useful, quick and deceptive submission in its own right. However, it can also be used to set up great opportunities for sweeps and transitions to other submissions, as well. In this video, I show the fundamental mechanics of the arm crunch, as well as using it for the following purposes:
– Hiza Gatame from Butterfly Guard
– Triangle Choke (Sankaku Jime) Transition
– Sumi Gaeshi Sweep from Butterfly
– Heel Hook from Backside 50/50 Set Up
– Application from Kesa Gatame
