Butterfly To Stand Up Sweep!

Returning To Training After Vacation!

This is a much bigger issue for us older guys. Take a long vacation -relaxing and maybe indulging just a little bit : ) our bodies just seem to say – hey no more Jiu Jitsu. And start to go soft – super fast. I wish it wasn’t the case but it sure is for me. This presents a problem when we re-enter the gym. Coming back, we see all our friends, we miss the rolling and we can often go in too hard too fast and really injure ourselves. This happened to me recently. As I prepare for my vacation in China – I discuss this important topic. Hope you like it.

Technical Stand Up Sweep!

In this video I discuss the Technical Stand Up Sweep. This might be one of the easiest sweeps you will be able to execute in Jiu Jitsu. It takes advantage of action/reaction, using heights as an advantage and well it’s kinda like cheating : ) The great thing about the sweep also is that it’s super easy to do and when you get it moving. Back Control Into Mount!

If you get back control. You should get the submission. But like all things in Jiu Jitsu – not all the time! Particularly if your training partner is very good at escapes or perhaps you have had an off night…but you can turn that escape into a mount. If this is competition you have gained 4 points for the back and now another 4 points for the mount. 8 points! And perhaps that is close to a submission. Welcoming New People Into Your Jiu Jitsu Club!

Hi Guys – It’s The Struggling Grappler here…firstly, apologies for the sound quality in the video. There was a big downpour of rain when I was recording which you can here but I don’t think impacted the overall message.

And the message is about – welcoming newcomers to the Jiu Jitsu Academy. We quickly forget what it’s like to be the new guy. And how scared we were when we first entered those doors for our first training session. And I bet more often than not, a big reason for you staying (or not) will be how welcome you feel. We know how much Jiu Jitsu can change people’s lives. How much it can improve peoples lives and I think there is perhaps a 4 lesson window when people make up their minds to stay (or leave). And we, as more seasoned members of the club can make people feel welcome so they make the decision to stay! Listen to this video as I discuss this in more detail. Hope you enjoy it.
