Promoted to BJJ Blue Belt in Less Than 1 Year (And He Hates It!)

Promoted to BJJ Blue Belt in Less Than 1 Year (And He Hates It!)

Today our question comes from a viewer who got their BJJ Blue Belt in 8 months…

Now, for most of you, 8 months is pretty cool…

for him, it’s not so cool. He sees on the internet that, for most people, a Blue Belt is 1.5-2 years on average, and he feels uneasy about it.

He feels like he may not of had enough time to develop and is getting a bit of imposter syndrome.

He then competed at Blue Belt, lost his first match quick, got embarrassed, and left the competition feeling deflated.

That lingering “boogyman” in his head telling him he’s not ready was validated by that competition telling him that he does not belong.

He’s had a couple weeks off, but coming back he has this overwhelming feeling of anxiety and does not trust his Blue Belt.

He’s asking for some advice on the whole situation.

I got my Blue Belt really quick too (although I was a wrestler) and I’ll kinda tell you how I dealt with this “imposter syndrome” or lack of readiness.

Hopefully you found this video helpful. Thanks for watching!
