In today’s video I answer a question from Alex (a young BJJ Blue Belt) who has some Wrestling experience about rolling with new people inside the gym. He says that recently he was rolling with a brand new guy who also had some wrestling experience. During the rolling he was very easy with the new guy because he wanted to welcome him to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Well, after the round was over the new guy seemed to think that Alex couldn’t do anything to him.
So Alex’s question to me is about whether or not he should put it on the new people in the gym or go easy.
In this video I share a couple of stories about times I took it easy on people and they mistakenly thought I couldn’t do anything to them. Then I also go into how I do things now to help people understand the level of skill that exists but also be helpful at the same time.
If you’re in a similar situation as the Blue Belt when you’re rolling with new White Belts then I hope this is helpful.
