TO BURN THE SHIPS
.
This is a post I’ve dreaded making for a while now, knowing it had to be done.
.
It may come as a shock to people whom have resumed their Jiu-jitsu training, or to they who never had to stop. But for those, like myself, who are still not allowed to legally train Jiu-jitsu it should be no surprise.
.
It’s with a very heavy heart that I’m announcing the closure of my Academy.
.
It’s been 3 years since I began Central Alberta Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. For most of the last 14 months of it I’ve not been allowed to operate.
.
It’s come to a point where I can no longer sustain the unsustainable. And God knows I’ve tried.
.
It’s hard to explain how demoralizing, frustrating and soul sucking this pandemic has been on my Business, my Family and Myself.
.
I go into that more on today’s @because_jitsu_podcast Episode.
.
Years ago, when I made the choice to leave the field of Welding to venture out on my own; after that decision was made, I put the project into motion in a way I couldn’t take it back.
.
I poured our entire worth and then some into it. There was no half-assing that kind of move.
.
I’m at a point now where a very similar decision is being made.
.
The saying “Burn The Ships” is used when describing a decision that once made, purposefully can’t be taken back.
.
In the way that Vikings and Spanish Conquistadors did in olden times when they came to a new land.
.
They would burn their ships to make the point that there was no turning back.
.
In that spirit, not only am I closing the Academy, but I’ve Sold my House and am moving my Family into a mobile RV set-up to take to the road.
.
We plan on Touring the USA as soon as we’re able to cross the border. Video Blogging the whole thing.
.
We’re going to visit States we’ve never been to and train at Schools all over the place. Using this rare opportunity to live day to day and go wherever we decide to for the time being.
.
After the last 14 Months of being nailed down to a dead-end situation, we need it.
.
To decompress. To reunite. And to feel alive again.
.
As of right now, the Ships have been Burnt. And the only thing ahead are the possibilities of the unknown.
.
And that sounds good to me π
