Managing the distance in both standing and grounded situations is one of the most under taught and under practiced principles in #selfdefense. It makes sense to understand how to reposition yourself to remain safe from wide angle, looping punches because they are common behaviors in fights (like the assault on the LAPD officer at the harbor precinct).
The techniques are from the #graciesurvivaltactics course and my friend @nateorch10p, who taught me how learning takedowns can be fun and even gentle to practice. I like that during the leg hook takedown the detail of removing the entangled leg and posting it to control the descent of the takedown. Less chance of injury from crashing to the ground and more chance of remaining on top if the fight was on concrete or asphalt. My awesome uke in these clips is Nathan, a student at @uofwa who hopes to one day have a career in #lawenforcement. Mahalo for helping me stay safe! 🙏🏽🥋🚔🤙🏽 #police #jiujitsu #fitness #recruiting #trainweeklyorfightweakly #aiea #oahugrown
