I’ve always had a great time at IBJJF events. I love chillin on the yellow barricades, watching random blue belts fight their hearts out. I love seeing all my old Jiu-Jitsu friends from around the world, taking pictures with savage little kids, and shooting the shit with the old school legends. I’ve always appreciated the way the whole jiu-jitsu community comes together at these events to basically just celebrate our mutual love for the sport. I love watching all the wins and losses as athletes and coaches get to experience the full spectrum of emotions that are universally linked to jiu-jitsu competition. When I’m at a tournament I’m consumed with the present. I don’t have the need to think about politics or the economy. I don’t think about what I need to do next week, or what I should have done better last week. Everything that is not Jiu-Jitsu is expelled from my mind and I can just focus on the thing I love most. 2020 is probably going down as the worst year in jiu-jitsu history, but 2021 will surely usher in a new wave of appreciation and perspective for our sport.
