Increase Your Open Guard Passing Defense With These Simple Tips

Increase Your Open Guard Passing Defense With These Simple Tips

Open Guard with no control of grips can be frustrating to deal with. When rolling against an opponent that has a very fast Guard passing game you need to be using these tips.

By sitting to my butt rather than my back I can create more distance and slow a fast passer down. If I start from my back he is already one step ahead of me.

It’s very instinctive to go straight for the hip escape when getting your Guard passed. Once you learn the difference of when to butt scoot vs when to hip escape your open Guard game will drastically improve.

When going into positions from the Open Guard it is important that we control our grips and then scoot into the position. Rather than falling back and setting ourself up for the Guard pass.

Try these tips out and let me know how they work for you!
