If youve ever noticed, most successful back takes and submissions come from a situation where the bottom man turtles to avoid a pass. But what happens in a submission only situation where a smart player simply accepts the pass? In these cases you dont see too many submissions or back takes. In fact, what you mostly see (without the gi especially) is the top athlete looking almost clueless as to what to do next in terms of scoring a submission. Anyone can score a back take or submission when given one. But how many athletes can TAKE a submission when an opponent is doing nothing but defending on their back?
