Every once in a while skating and jiu-jitsu intersect and it is always super cool when it does! I first met @natetrahan several years ago shredding and coaching at the @bellevueskatepark skate camps. He’s a student at @uofwa now and he was down to help me pressure test some techniques. Notice that Nate and I are close to the same size. A big difference from some of the other people however, is that has great base and balance from wrestling in high school and he was difficult to sweep. A good reminder to never underestimate someone’s capabilities due to their physical stature!
The uniform and gear makes torso flexion and rotation much more difficult. The tread of the boots also get tangled in loose clothing. I’m using a @safarilandgroup 6360 RDS ALS/SLS holster that I use for training (thanks to my firearms coach and friend @buliwyf_actual) so I can really beat on it without worrying about the cumulative stress of gun grabs. A Negative Cant Plate (NCP) by @the_theory_police / @blackboxcustoms_ attached to a QLS fork and secured with Safariland factory bolts. Notice how how far in front of me the holster got pulled. Thank goodness for the holster retentions. After several training sessions with that set up I have zero issues with it. After a safety check to ensure there were no live weapons, I also left most of the stuff I usually carry in my pockets to see what would fall out. Lots of work to do and I’m grateful for knowing people like Nate who I trust and are willing to help me get better. 🙏🏽🥋🤙🏽 #police #graciesurvivaltactics #selfdefense #fitness #trainweeklyorfightweakly #aiea #oahugrown
