A common mistake you see people make when attempting a toe hold is allowing their partner’s leg to straighten and adding more rotation than is necessary.⠀

If you’re struggling to maintain control and finish the toe hold without your partner spinning out, check out these tips:⠀

Keep your partner’s leg bent with their knee in the crook of your hip⠀
Lock your legs around their hip and pinch your knees to maintain connection⠀
Rather than try to twist to finish, use your whole body to push your opponent’s foot to their butt, bending it rather than twisting it.⠀

In today’s video I share a powerful armbar that I’ve been using during BJJ training for the last 6-7 months. The armlock is also super sneaky because it doesn’t use the normal grips of most armbars in Jiu-jitsu. I also show some details on how to hide your grips a bit. Again, the purpose is to use different grips that the person is unfamiliar with so they don’t feel it coming. . . until it’s too late.
In Brazilian Jiu-jitsu I call this idea “flying under the radar” and use it whenever I can. You can breathe new life into BJJ techniques simply by changing the grips you use to set it up.
This will be the 1st video to start an ongoing armlock series from side control that you follow on the channel. This is one of the areas I’ve been working on personally so I figured I’d share some of the things that have been working for me.
