I’ve been working with the athletes on finding their calm pace where they can apply the techniques without making the fight stressful to a level they cant handle.

it requires a very high technical level and confidence in your preparation to get there – the intention is not to submit fast and get out of there – the number one intention is to dominate the opponent and feel that you have control of the match (physically and mentally)

people that train to finish fast and more vulnerable – they normally put their expectations on one move, when it doesn’t work desperation and frustration take over.

focusing on control gives you the ability to spend energy in the right moments and create multiple finish opportunities if necessary.

It was special night tonight at @studio540 🥋 I was honored to be a part of promoting @onejudoka to purple belt in #jiujitsu along with @themaorikid @jakebjitsu @aolsher50 and @zeps_industries .

Max is a former USA #Judo national champion, US Team member as well as a division 1 #wrestler who now helps me train a lot of the MMA fighters, wrestlers and judoka that I coach. I am thankful for all of his help these last 6 months and know whole heartedly that he is deserving of this ranking in a new discipline of grappling. Here’s a finishing chest work out. This is a set where I went pretty heavy, which I usually don’t. 185×10, 205×8, 225×6, 275×4, 315×4, 335×2, finished with 225 until failure (17). Current body weight is 220lbs at 6 ft 2 with a 77 inch reach (people always ask in the comments), and I currently can’t eat food 😂. You can also tell I still hate lifting

Today’s video is a quick video about how BJJ Black Belts get their stripes and promotions.

So in the video I share the basics of how I’ve been promoted and how the common stripe/belt promotion practice takes place for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belts. Now, I’m sure some systems could be different than the one I outline here. But this is the basic time requirements I’m familiar with and have been exposed to in my training.

In the video I also share how old I’ll be when I can get the Red/Black and the final Red Belt of Jiu-jitsu. Since I was promoted to Black Belt when I was 26, I’ll be eligible for the final rank of BJJ when I am 89 years old.

. . . Let’s see if I even make that.
