“I’m getting anxious before BJJ class” is what one of my Blue Belts recent told me during a training session.
He says that he loves training. But when he arrives for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. Instead of focusing on the techniques, drilling, etc. He’s getting nervous and amped about the rolls to come later on.
This anxiety is really affecting his motivation to train.
In this video I share the advice that I gave him that day which I think could be really useful to anyone who is either getting anxious or beating themselves up after BJJ training.
And that advice is to set an intention of. . .
1. Show up to class.
2. Don’t judge yourself, judge the situation objectively.
I go into details about how I came to this idea of setting an intention. Which honestly came from Yoga originally.
But it’s been useful to me in numerous situations and so I share it with any grappler who’s struggling a bit.
This tip was useful for my Blue Belt and I hope it helps you with your Brazilian Jiujitsu training.

If you’d ever like to train with the team and I. Check out my gym Derby City MMA in Louisville,KY.
Rob Magao shows a great hack to get the bow and arrow choke when the opponent is very tight defending their collar.
Yeah…but, what if the guy is punching you?
This is the comment I got a few times on my other mount escapes video (which you should check out if you haven’t). And it was kind of odd to me, because each of the escapes were mostly useful for sport or self-defense. But I thought I would make a video to try to clarify any confusion to that point, and film it no-gi just in case that was an issue.
In this video, I mention striking considerations and how to escape the bottom mount position, avoiding as much damage as possible. I also include a submission toward the end that occurs frequently if the last escape is performed well.
I hope these help! If they do, please like, share and subscribe!
