Rolling Toe Hold versus De La Riva
O uchi
If you’ve ever been caught in a double under pass, you’ll know how strong it is! But it’s not unbeatable! Check out this video of Atos black belt Mike Carbullido showing two slick double under defenses – one when your opponent locks his/her hands and another when he/she grabs the lapel – straight to a nice triangle or arm bar from triangle guard!

Sweep your opponent with this lasso guard and submit him with a triangle
If your opponent is leading with their opposite foot forward and you are unable to shoot in for the high crotch, you are still in a good position to get in on a single without having to shoot.

The best and one of the most effective ways I found to escape a triangle choke is when I feel my opponent is setting it up. You must to recognize when the triangle is coming, get rid of it right away. Actually, every single submission attack must be defended during the transition of the movement, it will be way better for you. Never accept a tight triangle locked to defend it. The key is to get out of it as soon as possible. Triangle is a powerful choke, most of the time the opponent will have to adjust it in order to make the choke tighter. That’s the perfect moment to escape from it. I always see people posturing up and wait to escape from it but in my opinion, this is the worst thing you can do if you’re fighting a stronger, bigger and faster opponent. When you try to posture, you will end up helping your opponent to be hanged with his calf over your neck, when your posture is up, your neck will be like a hook for your opponent’s leg, don’t do it cause you will end up helping him/her. Posturing up is “to pay the price”, tucking your chin on your chest and putting your ear towards your shoulder will help you to create space to escape from it easier. ***the details of your elbow that is in between the legs are also very important to slow down your opponent, he will struggle or even will not be able at all from escaping the hips creating the angle. Remember it: “it’s a tri-angle, there’s no triangle without the right ANGLE”
