I’m gonna cover the basic details of the technique in this video as well, but more importantly, I want to talk about how elite grapplers just “feel the technique”. They feel that they are in the right spot at the right time, due to tens of thousands of repetitions, so they don’t even have to think too much, it’s all automatic and their bodies move by themselves.
That’s exactly what happened in this match between Nicholas Meregali and Dillon Danis.

The collar sleeve is one of the foundational open guard controls, it is very dangerous for submissions sweeps and acts as a transition point to many other guards. It’s easy to set up and hard to escape from, therefore it’s extremely important to have a solid plan for dealing with this position. This is a series I like to use heavily based around Lepri style pressure passing. When I show techniques I like to focus on giving complete systems so that you can see how the techniques fit together. Often people learn single techniques but this makes it difficult when your opponent does an opposite response than the one you need.
