Recently I got a message from a Marine with Wrestling experience (a little bit of BJJ) and is getting ready to move to a new area. He says that he wants to seek out a new Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym to continue his training and improve in grappling.
His questions are about talking about his previous experience. He’s wondering how much he should tell his new Jiu-jitsu coach because he doesn’t want to seem like a big shot. But at the same time he feels like he doesn’t want to do the beginner classes which he thinks will hinder his progress.
In this Chewy Ramble video I share an experience from my years of training when I switched BJJ gyms as a Purple Belt and came to Derby City MMA (the current gym I own with my partner). I talk about how I incorporated myself with the new gym and tribe of people. Through this experience I give our friend some points to consider for his own training.
If you’re in the process of changing gyms or having a similar question then I hope this video is useful to you.
Thanks for watching.
