Goodbye M4, Hello M5!👴🏼🫡 Today I competed in my last tournament as a Master 4 and took first place at the @ibjjf Fort Lauderdale International Open. Won the first match by triangle and the finals by points 11×0 (and yes, I forgot to record the match🤦🏽♂️). Thank you, Marcelo Pereira, for the coaching!🙌
Now, as I always recommend, it’s time to reevaluate the performance, analyze the good and not so good, and work on improvement.
Big thanks to my team:

Have you ever felt like you’ve hit a plateau in your Jiu-Jitsu training? 🧐
In this clip from @AZBJJLeague Rolling through the Valley, I talk about how plateaus are a normal part of the journey. Often, people forget that as your training partners learn your patterns and best moves, it becomes harder to execute them. This process is crucial for your growth.
It’s important to learn what it takes to shut your own game down. For example, in a guard system, you need to know when it’s time to bail because the strategy isn’t working. Sometimes, you’ll need to push yourself out of your comfort zone—and that’s where the real progress happens. 💪
Remember, growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone and embrace the challenges that come with refining your game.

O vídeo será liberado em breve no canal #thebjjmentalcoach no YouTube. Stay tuned! 📺🔥

🇺🇸
Mistake 13 – Settling for the Result Before the Match
Have you ever reached the semi-finals or finals of a tournament and, feeling satisfied with your progress, ended up relaxing? Or maybe you won a tough match and felt content, even though there were still more matches ahead? This is mental mistake number 13 on our list of the Top 30 Mental Mistakes Athletes Make: Settling for the result before the competition is over.
In this lesson, we will explore how to avoid this mistake and maintain a mindset of excellence until the very last second of each competition. It’s not enough to just get close; the focus should be on achieving your true goal without losing momentum. We will discuss strategies to help you stay focused and not let the feeling of “almost there” affect your performance.
Additionally, we will feature testimonials from coaches and athletes that I’ve interviewed on the Mente Blindada 24/7 podcast, sharing their experiences and how they learned to overcome this mental mistake.
If you’ve ever found yourself relaxing too early in a competition, this lesson is essential for you.

For those who don’t know my business ventures, I’ve been a tournament promoter for 26 years and I’m the owner of @azbjjleague. 🥋 We’ve always worked hard to grow the sport in Arizona and support our local academies. 🌵
We launched a show called “ROLLING THROUGH THE VALLEY” where we visit academies and interview instructors. 🎥 We also have another show, “TAPPED IN: AZBJJL Stories”, focused on the competition scene. 🏆
We started two years ago, and my academy was featured on episode #23. 🎬 If you want to check it out, head over to the AZBJJL YouTube channel! https://youtu.be/zcp4UqEif0w?si=BWiqMGGZ-kGwRUsf
In this clip, I talk about the growth of BJJ in AZ. With over 150 schools in the valley, it might take a while to feature everyone. 😉👊

Welcome to episode 150 of the BJJ Mental Coach Podcast! Today, I’m joined by Nick Haider, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and the founder of Guardian Project Los Angeles.
Nick’s journey in martial arts began at just 7 years old after being a victim of bullying, which ignited his passion for self-defense. What started as a way to protect himself evolved into a lifelong commitment to helping others through Jiu-Jitsu. Now, as the founder of Guardian Project LA, Nick is giving back to his community by providing underprivileged youth with the same opportunities he once received. Through Jiu-Jitsu, he’s teaching life lessons, building confidence, and shaping the future of the next generation.
Joining me today as co-host is Calder Powers, who was featured on episode 136. Calder is the executive director of the Guardian Project, a non-profit offering free Jiu-Jitsu training to underprivileged youth worldwide.
I know it’s been a while since I last released an episode, as I’ve been focused on the Master Worlds. However, I’ve been busy creating content for Instagram @gustavodantasbjj and on my YouTube channel, The BJJ Mental Coach.
Enjoy the episode!

Qual é a mensagem aqui?

🧐 Do you have a Chiropractor on your team?
If you practice Jiu-Jitsu, and especially if you compete, over time you start building a support team. Besides your grappling coaches, many people add professionals like a strength and conditioning coach, physical therapist, nutritionist, mental coach, massage therapist—and yes, chiropractors.
It took me a while to feel comfortable with chiropractic care, and the key word is trust. Benefits of chiropractic care include faster recovery from injuries, better joint mobility, and overall pain relief—essential for staying consistent in training.
I’m happy I found Dr. Eric Bruere from @azspinediscandsport , located in Chandler (Ray Rd & Rural Rd) inside @oydsports . He’s been a crucial addition to my team, helping me deal with injuries and keeping me on the mats.
“Trust your team. Let others do their work so you can concentrate wholly on your own.” — Gene King 💪
