What is your secret move? The nature of grappling, at its core, seems to me to be the application of knowledge to defeat an opponent. Sure strength, speed, coordination, wieght all are part of the game. But, I believe that’s just the board you play on. How you move the pieces can be done with varying degrees of efficacy. How effective you are with your body is really dependent on your knowledge of the positions. I’ve never been a believer of only learning a few systems. I truly believe that to have an accurate understanding of how all the pieces (techniques) interact on all the different boards (people/bodytypes) there has to be a wide study in all the systems that persist in the current and past grappling metas. This technique shown was a piece of knowledge shared with me by @gutocamposjj many years ago. This is a fantastic bit of information because it finds a way to apply a threat in a position the majority of boards you play on will not recognize as a threat. These subtle interplay’s of knowledge exposing weaknesses allowed by ignorance is really fascinating to me and this power imbalance of being able to DO better, simply by knowing more, is an incredible lesson not just for this sport, but for life.
